That's the entire point of Identity Crisis. How characters would react to being displaced from their known frame of reference.

Of course, if Satan were living as an otherwise normal politician (or other demonic figure) among us, every time some wag said, "The Devil made me do it!" Satan would have to jump up and say, "No I didn't! You can't blame that on ME!"
