Ya. Microsoft Word has one built in. It also has a grammar checker, though it doesn't pickup on words that are spelled correctly, but the wrong word for the sentence.

An example is loose verses lose. I type fast and often double hit a character. I miss stuff like that. The fact that I'm dyslexic makes it very hard for me to proof-read my stories. I proof a chapter three times and still miss stuff.

Good to see you're not letting Dyslexia get in the way of telling your story! Keep it up, Hikaru!

Great to see someone go forth and publicly admit to being dyslexic. (no I'm not, I just got screwed up in school... You try learning two different written verisons of Norwegian and get a grip of English too... :-)

Did you know that you are in VERY good company being a dyslexic?
The previos Norwegian King, Olav V was dyslexic, and he never let it deter him from doing his duties.

So spake the Longhaired Viking while sipping his tea.

Actually, I had a talk with Jim Lane (author of Redeeming Factors) about Dyslexia. Actually it was more of a minor rant on his part. ;)

Quote:

LOTS of folks were (and probably still ARE being) diagnosed as "dyslexic" when, in fact, they're NOT. There's a totally different
syndrome called "agraphia" that I discovered a few years ago. A long-time friend of mine (Glenn Bernhard, mentioned in RF's dedication)was diagnosed as dyslexic when he was a child, and he grew up and lived most of his adult life with that sword hanging over his head.

BRAPP!! Wrong diagnosis! A few years ago I found, while reading/posting in a furry newsgroup, one poster who's signature file
contained the following: (paraphrased, since I can no longer find his postings) "Please pardon my poor spelling. I have agraphia, and it
makes it difficult for me to write clearly. For information on agraphia click this link---"

Well, one day I *did* click the link, and it took me to a medical site that explained the syndrome, and how it was mistakenly diagnosed as dyslexia. A TRUE dyslexic can NEITHER write NOR READ. Someone with agraphia reads just fine, but when he/she tries to write it often comes out jumbled or misspelled. BIG difference, and when I rubbed my friend's nose in it (and his doctor grudgingly confirmed it) it was as if the proverbial load was lifted from his shoulders. ALL HIS LIFE he'd had, "You're dyslexic!" thrown in his face. Suddenly he found that his problem was far different (I'd known that he was a voracious reader for decades) and that he wasn't "dumb", as some cruel folks (his ex-wife, for one) had continually harped. Keith, you wouldn't be able to do the things you do with computers and software, were you dyslexic. And writing---forget it! Your stories wouldn't make sense, and believe me, IC is a VERY structured and logical fantasy. Go to Yahoo's medical site and look up agraphia. If you can't find the references just let me know. I've got it marked (I'd BETTER have it marked!) and if you need them I'll dig up the links.

So.... I guess you can say I have a bad case of Agraphia as I can read just fine. Writing's the problem. Fortunately for me Word manages to point out/fix most of my errors.

Hikaru

BTW: Check out Redeeming Factors as it's a pretty good read.

I wasn't aware of that, Hikaru. That's very interesting indeed. I'll have a look into Agraphia.

Excellent work. This is better than much of the stuff out there passing itself off as fantasy/science fiction.
Loads of consistency, plots that, while they're easy to follow, aren't terribly formulaic, etc.

Agraphia, eh? Wouldn't worry about it too much- I figured that was what was up and didn't give it
a second thought. If it bothers you, you can always find a friend or a fan that'd be happy to do\
editorial work on the sly for you.
