Markwhite (Markwhite) | Thursday, June 07, 2001 - 06:52 pm Back at Amy's apartment things finally quieted down after all the excitement. Sabrina began to make herself some coffee and asked if anybody wanted some. Seemed that a pot now was in order. "Seems you had a very exciting day, at least you got to see Chris' idol." Said Amy. Chris was a bit embarrassed by the fact that he did like another woman but man she was hot. He loved Sabrina but he also liked the look of Cheetaur and he wasn't the only one. Amy could see that Sabrina was upset about the fact that her car was now a pile of junk. "Yeah, it was exciting that's for sure." She sighed as she sat down at the table and joined everyone, it was going to take a few minutes for the coffee to brew anyway. "At least Chris got Cheetaurs' autograph and a personal invitation to see her privately later on this week." Sabrina said grudgingly, it was about the only thing that did go right today. "Sabrina I'm sorry that I made you take me to the mall." Chris felt really bad about the loss of Sabrina's car. It was for him she really went anyway. "Chris you have apologized eight million times already, it's not your fault." She was almost mad at him because he kept on apologizing, she understood that he felt bad but after the thirtieth time it got to be annoying. "We had some bad luck that's all, thank god for your gift with numbers. I still can't believe that you remembered the license number of the truck. You just may have gotten me another car or least enough to start payments for one." Chris sighed, she was right. "I'm glad that I was able to remember." The telephone rang and Sabrina got up and left the kitchen to answer it. "Hello! Oh hi Mom. She did really! That's great news hold on Mom let me just relay the news to everyone." She put the phone down and went to tell everyone the good news. "Sabrina's awake!" Everyone was overjoyed and wanted more information but since she hadn't given her mother any time to relay anything she couldn't tell them much. So it was back to the phone to find out the rest. "Sorry Mom but I just had to tell the others." "It's ok, it's big news and good news for a change. The doctors said they have to keep an eye on her for a couple of days. If she does all right then they have nothing to keep her for." She was about to tell Sabrina about her memory loss but she thought it was best just to keep that back for a little while. Margrette hadn't given out a lot of details anyway. She would learn more when she went to pick her up tonight. Things might be better tomorrow, so it was better to wait. "That's great to hear Mom. " She didn't want to tell her but now was as good a time as any. "Well I have some news for you as well." She's gonna flip when she hears this she thought. "My car got totaled today." "What!" Sabrina pulled the phone away from her ear. "You had an accident! Are you ok?" Her tone of voice was of deep concern and Sabrina knew she had to calm her down quickly. "I'm fine Mom we went to the hospital and had x-rays. Everything is where it should be. They gave Chris and me some mild sedatives for tonight just to help us sleep." "What happened? Your father is here and wants to know if anyone else was involved." Oh boy, she didn't want to worry her father too. "You can tell him no, just me a ladder and a bus. If he knows of a good car then he better tell me where to go look at it." She heard the phone transfer hands. "Sabrina are you ok?" "Yes Dad, I'm fine." "You sure, I can come and get you." "No Dad I'm fine, it was nice of you to offer. I love you too." There was a pause then he asked, "What happened?" "A ladder fell off a truck and stopped us only then to be rear ended by a bus." "Sabrina are you sure your ok? You are very lucky girl, you could have been killed." "Yes Dad I know but I'm fine, just a little shaken up that's all. The news of Sabrina waking up has perked me up. How's Margrette taking it?" "Well you'll have to ask your Mother." She heard the phone being transferred again. "She's overjoyed, she can't wait to get Sabrina out of that place." "That's great news." "So you're sure you're ok, dear? Your father can come." "I'm fine Mom, Chris is here and the doctors said we're fine." She knew her mother was just being cautious and making sure. "I can come over if you need me." "We're fine Mom. Give Sabrina and Margrette my love. I'll be in to see her tomorrow that's for sure, we have lots to catch up on." "Ok dear, you have a good rest, sounds like you will need it after the day you had. I'll have Warren look in the classifieds for a car. Give Chris my love." The last statement was what Sabrina always liked to hear, it was a subtle acceptance of Chris on her part. "Ok Mom, give Dad my love." "Will do dear, we'll talk tomorrow." The phone went dead and Sabrina returned to the kitchen. "Well tell us!" Said Amy, anxious to hear more about Sabrina. "There is not much more to say, the doctors want to keep her for a few more days then she can come home if everything checks out. Margrette's still there, Mom's going in to pick her up soon." "Well I'm glad she's awake, she had everyone on edge here." Amy said. "It will be nice to finally meet her, from what you told me she sounds really nice." Said Chris. "She is Chris, you won't be disappointed." In her mind she was glad but something said that this wasn't quite over yet. She stared at the stars and marveled at their beauty. The coat that Sabrina had conjured up from nothingness was very warm, she was glad to have it. Although for a second she had a quick chill and the world spun for just a moment then it went away. She felt at peace and it felt good. This adventure was a refreshing change from her day to day routine, which had been getting to her. This path seemed almost too good to be true. Fragments of her memory were still unavailable to her but she didn't care, she was here and she was happy. What more could she ask for? It was then that a strange smell came over her and she tried to identify it. It was the smell of morning dew on grass, but why was she remembering that. She also could remember an old woman's face, it was her Great Aunt Sara. They were out on one of her morning walks and the sun had just come up. Aunt Sarah had always enjoyed the mornings and watching the sunrise was something she really enjoyed. She rested in the afternoon but she wanted to see the day arrive in style as she put it. She felt that she had to be there to greet the day, it wasn't a philosophy that she followed but everyone had their own. The walk was nice until she heard the sounds of squealing tires and the roar of a motor behind them. Then they were both struck violently from behind, she shivered at this horrific memory. She felt the pain of the car smashing into her body and her arm snapping like a twig. She cried out in pain as the memory ran on and on. She screamed and fell to her knees to the deck, her arm felt useless and pain almost unbearable. Blood dripped to the deck and she put her paw up to find her head was bleeding. What was happening to her? Why were these memories returning and these pains. Was this real? Did it really happen? She didn't know, there was no one here to confirm it. The pain seemed to be most definitely real. She tried flexing her left arm almost passed out from the jarring assault of agony. She pulled the arm in close to her and didn't move it very much from then on. What was happening to her? She wished she understood. It was then that the world began to spin and she collapsed onto the deck unconscious. At the hospital Endora found Margrette pacing outside of Sabrina's door. "Margrette?" "Endora its good to see you." She gave her friend one of the biggest hugs she had gotten in awhile. But she was still looking for someone else, "Where's Kathren?" "She finally ran out of steam and fell fast asleep I didn't have the heart to wake her." "She tends to get that way, go like crazy then almost collapse." Silly girl she thought. "Margrette what's wrong? Has anything happened to Sabrina?" Margrette was in a state of despair and Endora was concerned. Margrette nodded with tears running down her face. "She doesn't remember very much of anything, like I told you on the phone. She didn't even know me." Endora was afraid something like this might happen. Head injuries are very complex sometimes in what can be damaged. "Is she ok other than that?" Margrette sniffed. "Yes she seems to be." "That's good to hear. Margrette she's had a tremendous blow to the head remember. Things like this are bound to happen. It is probably just temporary." "I know it's just that I felt so helpless and scared for her. She doesn't understand why she is here or who she actually is. It has me so scared." "Then we must help her all we can, she needs us more now than ever. Is the doctor in there now?" "Yes he arrived not too long ago, he wanted to see her immediately. He said he was going to have to do a scan of her head." Margrette started to cry even harder. "It's going to be alright Margrette the scan won't hurt her." "I know but I just want my baby back!" The fur under her eyes was soaked and Endora took a tissue out of her purse and tried to dry her eyes. "She'll come back to you in one way or another, you love her and that's all that matters." They hugged for what seemed to be a very long time. Then they sat down in the waiting room near by hoping the doctor would bring some good news. Chris stared at Sabrina in bed and really wondered where her thoughts were. "Kitten, penny for your thoughts." She was brushing her tail and not listening much to what Chris had to say. "Huh, did you say something?" "Yeah, you're a million miles away, care to share where you have been." "Oh sorry Chris, I'm just thrilled that Sabrina has woken up. Plus the fact that my car got totaled today, it still is freaking me out. You know we could have been killed." Sabrina had noticed Chris had always been better at handling stressful situations. Except when they presented themselves as watermelons on a woman's chest. "I know but we're still here." He stroked her hair and she leaned into him. "You'll be fine tomorrow Kitten." Chris thought it was really bad timing that all this had to happen now. He sighed to himself. "I know it's a rough time right now but I have to make arrangements to get back home tomorrow. I do have a few projects running at work that need my attention. Maybe we can run by the hospital before I go and see Sabrina. Then I can come back and help you pick out a car." Sabrina just looked up at him and saw sadness in his eyes. She knew that he didn't want to leave. "Yeah that sounds good, thanks Chris it was nice of you to come." "Thank Tammy it was her idea and she made it happen, she's a great gal." "She is, I'll have to take her out on the town one night to repay her." She smiled and a grin came over her face. "Wanna Romp!" "Sabrina! What if Amy hears?" Chris said a bit embarrassed by Sabrina's change in attitude. "Oh let her, it will be a change from me hearing them." "Are you sure about this?" "Give me a kiss you furry animal." Chris took this as a definite yes and he let himself go. They had a wild time that night and if Amy had heard anything she mentioned not a word. Saturday morning Sabrina and Chris both slept in late, they were a bit tired from their events of the prior day. Once up Chris and Sabrina had a shower together, it saved on water and was fun as well. With breakfast done Sabrina called her insurance company and gave them all the information she had. They told her it would be a couple of weeks before she heard anything. But also told her to phone back in a few days to see if there had been any change. It was about what she expected. The one thing she thought was on her policy wasn't and that was a rental. Now that was something she did need but she didn't have the cash at the moment to rent a car. "Well." She heard Chris ask behind her. "As I suspected, I'm not going to hear for awhile. And I don't have rental car coverage." She sat down and sighed. "Sorry to hear about that kitten. I can lend you some cash to get you a car for awhile, just until you get your check." She gave him a big smile and moved over and sat in his lap. "You know you're too good to me." "I take that as a yes." "Yup, I'll need it." "Ok lets call the bus station and see what's available for me. I believe this is the start of a very long day." "I think your right Dr. Watson." She smiled and gave him a big kiss. Endora, Warren, Margrette and Kathren all sat at the kitchen table eating what would be called a big breakfast. They knew that today would be long and tiring just like all the rest have been. Warren hadn't been filled in on the news about Sabrina since he had come home late and wasn't about to wake his wife from her peaceful slumber. "So any news about Sabrina? How's she doing?" "She's awake, but she doesn't remember much." Margrette said. "The doctor said it's probably temporary. Other than that she's just gonna have some bruises and probably her arm will ache for awhile. Her cuts are all on the mend." "Well its good she's awake Margrette, it's a good start." He had always liked Margrette, she was a fun person to be around. He could see why his wife had such a bond with her, it still showed. "Yes, I'm thankful for that." Margrette said as she finished off some toast. "Oh I forgot to tell you last night when I came home for my break, Frank called here. He was lucky to get me as I was walking out the door. Seeing that you weren't here I decided to head back." "Hopefully with some good news." Said Margrette. "Well it took awhile, remember I really haven't spoken to the guy in a long time." "OK, OK! What did he say?" Endora said impatiently. "He said his lawyer friend was contacted by a Christine Palburg." He looked for signs to see if this was making any sense. "Yeah that's Margrette's lawyer here, go on." Endora said pushing him onward. "He said that she would have a paper allowing you access to Sara's estate. He says it shouldn't be much of a problem for you now. We chatted about a few things but other than that he didn't have much else to say. Oh one thing he did stress was not to get rid of anything. He has to discuss that with you. Other than that we just spoke about old times." "Well that eases my mind a least for one thing anyway. Endora can we go over there this morning I want to get in there and make a good search for the will or an address of someone who might know if there is one." "No problem it's the first stop on our list, unless you want to see Sabrina." Too many things were weighing Margrette down and she sighed "Maybe that would be a better idea." "Let me call Sabrina and let her know what's going on there in case she goes in. I didn't tell her last night, I really didn't have all the information then. Then she told me about her accident and well, everything else just slipped my mind. She can at least be at least prepared." The phone rang many times at Amy's apartment and finally someone picked up. "Hello, Amy Squirrel residence." "Chris is that you?" "Oh hello Mrs. Mustelidae how are you this morning?" "Not too bad Chris, yourself." "Can't complain when I'm around Sabrina." "You just wait young man you haven't got the whole picture yet." "Oh! So there is another shoe." "Yes, that's all I will say on that. Would Sabrina be handy?" "One moment and I'll get her." There was a slight pause and then soon a familiar voice came through the phone. "Hi Mom." "Hi Dear, I just wanted to call you to tell you something important. Its about Sabrina dear." "She's ok isn't she." Sabrina braced herself for the worse. "It's ok dear, she's ok, to a point. Sabrina doesn't remember very much of anything, she has amnesia." "Oh no! How bad?" "Not very good dear, I just wanted to warn you. So she probably won't know who you are. So just explain, she seems to be taking all this quite well. She's calm and listens and maybe soon it will clear up. The doctors think so, so just be yourself." "Ok Mom, how's Margrette? This must have been quite a shock to her." "Doing better than I expected, having me and Kathren here has helped a lot. We'll be heading over there soon. So you might just catch us there." "We were going there soon too, we have to hitch the bus then go down to the bus station to get Chris his ticket, then onto the Hospital." "Sounds like you have your day all planned." "The morning at least." She saw Chris pointing to his watch. "Ok Mom we just might see you later ok, sorry to rush off but Chris says the bus will be here very soon." "Ok, love you." The phone went click and there was a dead silence. Endora really hoped to see her at the hospital, she desperately wanted to give her daughter a hug. All this had put a lot of stress on her as well and a hug from her daughter is what she really needed about now. She returned to the kitchen to relay the news and it wasn't long before they were off to the hospital. As Sabrina yawned and stretched she realized that her left arm didn't hurt at all. Even though it was in a cast. "Funny it doesn't hurt at all." She thought to herself, from the bruises she had she thought that she should hurt more but she didn't. The fact that she also had fur was somewhat strange as well. The texture was strange as she stroked it and found immediately that she didn't like the feeling of it being pushed back upon itself. The one thing she did want to know was if her powers still worked. She saw a box of Kleenex that were on the other side of the room. She pointed her finger at them and suddenly it became a bouquet of lovely yellow flowers in a glass vase. She smiled and thought "Yup still have my powers, now how can I use them to get out of this mess." A Rabbit nurse with a big smile entered into the room. "Oh good you're up. How are you feeling today Miss Sabrina Johnston?" It sounded weird but she was instructed to use her name as much as possible to help with her memory. The sight of a giant bunny rabbit talking to her was still a bit unnerving. But she found herself getting used to seeing these creatures as people other than weird things out of someone's imagination. Although some of them did look mighty strange indeed. "Pretty good, am I going home today?" She really wanted out of the hospital so she could get back to her own world and find out exactly what the heck happened. "I don't think you are due out today Miss Sabrina Johnston but I'm sure you'll have visitors. Your family has been here constantly and they are not hard to miss." Sabrina thought she must have been referring to that giant otter creature she saw. She also wanted another look at it. Her mind must have being playing tricks on her, no female is that big. "Ah miss is there anything I could read?" "Its Anne, and yes there are some magazines in the lounge, would you like me to take you there?" "That would be nice." "One moment and I'll be back with a chair." She decided to wait for the nurse before she would try to get out of the bed. No sense falling and hurting myself. She was still fascinated as why her arm didn't hurt at all. It was like nothing had really happened to her, but that wasn't the case Sabrina had been really hurt. Maybe her magic was counteracting the pain, it had never done that before though. The nurse came back and gently helped her up. It was suddenly apparent that she had something attached to her rear, she looked back and saw a big fluffy tail. The tail seemed to have a mind of its own, however the nurse just took hold of it and placed it gently to the side. "Thanks." "No problem." Anne smiled and Sabrina found herself comforted by her presence. The tail worried her a bit she knew it was there but it was where it was comfortable for now. She also found that the pads on her feet acted just like shoes, so walking on the floor wasn't too much of a problem. Seems that the bodies had adapted very well in this world. The nurse left her in the lounge and she picked up a beauty magazine. It was different in many ways from the ones she knew. It didn't have any articles on makeup it was more in line with hair grooming, styles and hair cuts. She found it funny to see an article on how to keep yourself flea free. Thank god she didn't have to worry about that, then suddenly she had an urgent need to scratch. End of Chapter 7 If the world were furry I'd have stocks in conditioner………;) |
