Happy reading…… Chapter 6 : The Waking She strode across the deck of the great ship searching for anyone, but found not a soul. The enormous ship was abandoned, she couldn't believe she was the only one on a vessel of this size. Who was monitoring the ship? Where were they going? Sabrina had no answers to these questions. All she could remember was waking up here, her left arm her hurt and so did her head but she didn't know why? She had searched a good deal of the ship but it was far too large for her to check everywhere. On a brass plaque on a door she saw the name of the ship and it brought with it memories of a horrible tragedy. The ship was the Titanic, in all her glory. The memories that haunted her were from the movie about the disaster at sea. The original ship had gone to the ocean floor long before she had ever been born. So why was it here now and why was she the only one aboard? Why did she remember this and not other things? She tried so hard to remember things that it caused her head to hurt from doing so. She tried thinking about things she thought she should remember, like her name. She paused but couldn't remember that either. In fact she remembered very little about herself. Staring out to sea and seeing nothing but ocean on either side, she felt completely helpless and frightened. She needed help but there was no one here to give it to her. It all seemed so implausible but here she was and all she could do was wait. Her mind was so full of conflict and confusion that this setting became all too real to her. The forces within her battled for supremacy but in the end it was her subconscious that won. However Sabrina was not lost, her conscious mind would not give up. It tried to reach out to others across the planes of existence and to other places and realities. Although at first it thought it was trapped just the same as Sabrina, it began to sense a way. This way meant that it would be up to another to help her host but it had no other choice. Sabrina approached the railing and looked down into the cold ocean below, it was a long way down. Wiping the tears from her face with the back of her paw she saw a cheerful sight. Some porpoises had decided to run along side of the great ship. They were beautiful creatures, so graceful and free. For a moment she forgot about her problems and wished she could join them. This was its chance, it jumped to one of the porpoises and looked back up at her host. Her eyes looked as if she was happy and she felt somehow comforted. She watched for a moment then turned and swam away, disappearing into the indistinct horizon. Sabrina watched as she saw the majestic creatures continue to swim along side. Then they broke away to swim off into the distance. She stared off into the horizon wondering who she was and what was to be her fate. The entity, which Sabrina had seen as a porpoise, crossed over into what was the focal point for all realities to carry her silent plea for help. Another entity heard that plea and decided to send help, while at the same time testing the worthiness of one they sent. To the entity it was a strange request, coming from an unusual source but a challenge none the less. The request was sent on to the others. Upon review the plea was accepted by all and so the spell was cast and sent on it's way to a world in another reality. This world is also known as Earth but resides in another dimension unknown to most. It's also very different from the world we know, because humans rule this world. What are humans you ask? They are strange creatures looking more like naked apes. They are the dominant species of the Earth and rule in much the same manner as we do. However on this earth certain types of Humans have mastered the art of magic and how to control it. Our attention now turns a young female human who can command the power of magic but she is new at this skill and still has a lot to learn. Unbeknownst to a certain Teenage witch, a mission of great importance was about to be placed upon her young shoulders. She opened the door to her bedroom and just stared at all the objects floating before her in a circular motion. Sabrina had seen many strange things since she had found out she was a witch but she hadn't seen anything like this. Seems she would need help in solving this mystery. "Aunt Hilda, Aunt Zelda come quick!" She shouted. Her Aunts heard Sabrina's cries and came up the stairs as quickly as they could. Sabrina had become their responsibility when Sabrina's parents decided to split up. So to give her a stable home, they left her with her Aunts. Who just happened to be Witches as well, they were to guide Sabrina in the uses of her powers for the good of man and womankind. Also to teach her about her powers and to show her that magic cannot solve all your problems with the wave of your finger. And to show that some lessons come at a great cost. "Sabrina what's the matter?" Asked Aunt Zelda. "Look!" Said Sabrina in a high voice, pointing towards the door. Zelda and Hilda both stared at all the objects floating around in Sabrina's room. "You didn't do this I take it?" Asked Aunt Hilda. "No! That's why I called you. What's going on?" Aunt Zelda tried a spell but it didn't stop the objects. "I don't understand that should have stopped them. Sabrina you stay here while Hilda and I go see the witches information booth." "Witches have information booths?" This was a surprise to Sabrina. Then again she had only been a witch for a short while in comparison to her Aunts. "Hey, we don't know everything, being a witch is complicated." Hilda said. Sabrina's two Aunts stepped into their inter-dimensional closet and were gone only a few seconds before they returned. "That was fast." Sabrina said. "Did you find out anything?" "Yes Sabrina we did." Said Zelda. "You're a guide witch." "A guide witch, what's that?" "First go into your room and say you will accept the case." "What will that do?" Asked Sabrina. "It will stop your little flying circus for one." Said Aunt Hilda. Sabrina used her magic to put herself into the middle of her room. "I accept the case." She said to the room, not knowing whom she was talking to. The items floating then returned to their place of origin. "Whew glad that's over." Her Aunts stepped into the room and began to explain. "A guide witch is one who looks after mortals in times of extreme danger. Not everyone can be a guide witch, only a chosen few. You are one of them." "So I have to go and help someone." "Yes, you must find him or her and try to help them." "Can I use my magic?" "Yes, but you must use it constructively, showing him/her the way with it is strictly forbidden." "Great more tests!" She was not amused and her reaction did not sit well with her Aunts. "Sabrina it's a great honor to be a guide witch, your involvement will change the life of this individual. Without your help this individual could die." "What! You mean their life is in my hands." This was totally new to her, she didn't think she really could handle someone dying because she made a mistake. "In some cases yes, not all callings are life and death though." Said Aunt Zelda. Sabrina was afraid to proceed but it looked as though she really didn't have a choice. "Ok so how do I go about finding this person?" "This is going to sound like a cliché but use a crystal ball." "Oh, now that's original." Sabrina couldn't believe how much of those old wives tales were true, broomsticks, crystal balls and it went on and on. "Hey! It works, don't knock it." Said Aunt Hilda. She waved her hands in the air and suddenly a Crystal Ball appeared in Sabrina's hands. It was so heavy she almost dropped the darn thing. "Time for you to go to work, so we'll leave you to concentrate. Oh, I almost forgot, the person you have to help will likely have the same name as yours, for some reason it just seems to work out that way." Her Aunts closed the door and left her alone with her Crystal Ball, which she promptly put on her bed. She jumped up onto the bed and began to concentrate. Staring into the depths of the mystical ball. Sabrina Johnston stared at the horizon wondering just how long her grand adventure was going to last. Although it was full of mysteries and of lost memories she found it quite exhilarating. It was then she heard the clearing of a throat behind her. She almost didn't want to turn around but she did anyway. There in front of her was a young male she knew well, she had seen his face many times in the movie Titanic. It was Leonard Decaprofox a hunk to almost all women, who swept them all off their feet with his charm and his elegance in the movie Titanic. Now why she could remember him and nothing about herself, that still was a complete mystery. "Hello young miss, the sunset is beautiful is it not." She almost didn't answer him, her mind was so shocked that he was here. "Ah, yes it is." She said in a shy voice. "Do you mind if I enjoy it with you?" "Oh, not at all, it's there for everyone to see." She was getting more confident talking with him. He was even more handsome in person, she thought to herself. "Indeed, although I wish I could just give it to you most beautiful lady." She blushed, she had dreamed of this but now it was all too real. Suddenly the ship was full of people, of all sorts. Mostly well dressed and wealthy, for they were the only ones allowed on the upper decks. It was a dream come true, and she began to enjoy herself. She was lost but now had been found, it seems that sometimes dreams do really come true. She didn't care where these people had came from or how they got here. She only knew she was no longer alone. Sabrina the teenage witch was having one heck of a time trying to locate this other mortal who was supposably in trouble. She had been staring into her crystal ball for so long that her eyes hurt. Then something changed within the ball, she could now see a spacious ocean scene. Then she was suddenly part of the scene flying just above the ocean's surface moving quickly towards a far off horizon. Soon she saw a ship and she changed her course to intercept it. It quickly came into viewing distance. She knew this ship! Actually it must be the most famous ship of all time, the Titanic. When she reached its mammoth hull she floated up to the upper decks and landed. She looked around but didn't see anyone on board, which was strange. She prowled around and soon came to the conclusion that the ship was abandoned. She took a moment to enjoy the view, she was at the stern. The giant propellers were churning the tranquil seas with their awesome power. And the noise was almost deafening but far in the distance something looked out of place. She conjured up a telescope to get a better look at it. To her it was as if the sky and the sea joined into a swirling mass. This didn't worry her too much though they were headed away from it. She made the telescope vanish and set her mind on her mission. Her senses told her that she was in the right place and to look some more. This mortal had to be here, the ship was here, so someone had to running it she assumed. As she moved she caught a sound of a whisper on the wind it was the sound of a voice. It seemed to be coming from the front of the ship. She used her magic to move herself to the bow and was overwhelmed by what she saw. It was a skunk, a humanoid skunk, dancing and carrying on a conversation with no one who was apparent. She had never seen anything like this, about the only thing that came close was Bugs Bunny but he was a cartoon character. A lot of cartoon artists took animals and made them more human like, but this skunk was real. Could this be the mortal she was searching for? Sabrina was at a loss for words. The skunk was wearing a dress so she assumed that it was female. It also spoke perfect English, so language wasn't going to be a problem. Well, she thought, might as well get this over with and find out for sure. "Excuse me." She said in a loud voice to get the she creatures attention. Sabrina heard the voice, turned her head from her prince and began screaming in fear. Leonard didn't know why his lovely lady was screaming and tried to calm her. "Get away from me, whatever you are!" She screamed at Sabrina. "My love what is wrong." Said Leonard trying to comfort his lady. "Don't you see it Leonard? It's right behind you." Sabrina said hysterically. Leonard turned around but saw nothing. "My dear there is nothing there." "But it's some sort of horrible monster." Sabrina didn't like the fact that she was being called a horrible monster. It was obvious that this creature had never seen a human being. Sabrina also noted that she seemed to be directing her comments at someone else and not her. Suddenly there were other creatures about, many others just like her. Now she could see whom this skunk woman was talking to but something was wrong with them. These new beings were somewhat transparent, not totally but they were different than the skunk she had seen first. "I don't mean you any harm, I'm here to help you." She said trying to make a bad situation better. "Stay away from me you monster!" Sabrina Johnston said showing her teeth. Sabrina didn't like the way this was starting out, so she thought things might get better put on her terms. She pointed her finger at the skunk and twisted it a bit and the two of them vanished. They didn't go far, just floating above the deck about the height of the mast. "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!" Screamed Sabrina the skunk. Let me down!" The sight of the ship way below them was frightening. "I'll let you down as soon as you listen to me." Said Sabrina The Witch. Sabrina didn't know how she was floating in mid-air but she was sure that this thing had something to do with it. "What has an ugly thing like you got to say to me?" She was going to lose it if this Female Skunk thing called her ugly thing one more time. You can only be insulted so many times in one day before you lose it. " First of all you can stop calling me an ugly thing! My name is Sabrina, I'm a witch and I've come here to try and help you." Sabrina Johnston couldn't believe what she just heard. She had to stop and think about this for a moment. The fact that they were floating in midair with nothing holding them up proved that something was indeed at work here. This thing being a witch could be one explanation. "First get me down, then we'll talk witch!" Her fur was standing on end and it was going to take awhile for it to settle back down. Suddenly they were back on the deck of the ship once again but no where near Leonard. "Satisfied." Sabrina said. "What is it you want with me Witch Sabrina and what manner of creature are you?" She had never seen such an ugly looking thing in her life. She wondered where this thing had come from, definitely not from her world. This is going to take some explaining Sabrina thought to herself. "It seems we didn't get off on the right foot, you know my name what is yours?" "My name is", she paused then said, "Sabrina Johnston." The words just floated out without her even thinking about it. "Hey I remember my name!" She exclaimed. "Maybe that's why I'm here, to help you regain some of your memories." She had no clue that this creature had a memory problem but it seems that her arrival had started something. "I doubt that Witch." She said in a nasty tone. The fact that they shared the same name was a bit degrading. To have to be seen in the company of this pale ugly naked thing was a bit embarrassing. "Hey what have you got against Witches skunk girl." The fact she knew what Witches were amazed her as well. "You're unholy creatures with powers from Satan himself." Oh boy, Sabrina thought to herself this was not going to be easy. She gently shook her head from side to side. "I'm sorry that you think that way, I'm not here to hurt you. Something drew me here to this ship and to you. There is something not right about all this." "Well, do what you have to do and get out of here. I was having a lovely time before you came around." Her mind went back to her time with Leonard. "You mean, with all these ghosts." "Ghosts? I don't understand. There are no ghosts here." "When I first arrived you were the only one I could see. You were talking to a fox-man but I couldn't see him. Now for some strange reason I can see the ones on the ship just like you can except that they're different from you." Sabrina wasn't sure about this creature and whether or not she was telling the truth. "In what way?" "You are solid, they are not. I can see through them, although not really well. However you are completely solid so you are different than all the rest." She wasn't sure if she understood. "Have you always been on this ship?" Sabrina Johnston thought about that question, as she did the sun went down very quickly. Now the night air and atmosphere brought the lights on in the great ship. Things were definitely happening Sabrina Johnston thought but was this witch doing it? Endora pulled the car into the hospital parking lot. There were plenty of places to choose from but none close to the hospital itself. They all clamored out and started walking. "Well it sounds like Christine will be able to get you into the apartment anyway." Said Endora. "Yeah but if we don't find a will the estate will go into limbo for at least a year and that worries me." "Don't worry Margrette, Christine will do a data base check. Maybe the will is filed with one of the locals round here." Kathren said hoping to give her friend and lover some cheer. "Let's just hope, I don't really need anything else going wrong." As they entered into the hospital Margrette felt something, it was just a twinge of something she couldn't put a finger on. They rode the elevator to Sabrina's floor and stepped out into the hallway. She was apprehensive at seeing Sabrina just lying there, if Sabrina would just say something it would make everything right. When they got to Sabrina's room they saw a doctor examining Sabrina. They could also hear that he was talking to Sabrina. "Come on Sabrina come back, we need you here." Margrette's hopes rose to new heights. "Doctor is she awake?" The doctor turned to find where the voice was coming from, "Are you her mother?" He said with concern. "Yes, I'm Mrs. Johnston. What's happening here?" Margrette had never seen a Koala before and she was surprised by his appearance. "I'm Dr. Harper, I'm a neurologist. I was called in for Sabrina. She is in a very light state of consciousness at the moment. Her condition changed overnight and they brought me in for evaluation." Light consciousness was something she wanted to hear, she knew that Sabrina's injuries were more than just a bump on the head but this sounded like good news. "Have you been able to determine anything." Margrette said, you could hear the hope in her voice. The doctor looked at her and knew that he shouldn't really lead her on. "I will give it to you straight. Sabrina's condition is at a crossroads we have seen in many patients before. At this point she is almost conscious but hasn't taken the last steps. If she doesn't wake up in the next twenty-four hours then most likely she will never awaken. Something in the brain has been damaged that prevents the patient from reaching consciousness. I'm sorry but that's how these cases usually go. The recovery rate is small and sometimes miracles do happen, but they are extremely rare." Margrette's hopes died after that statement, there was almost nothing left to do but cry. "There must be something you can do for her! An operation, therapy, something!" She was at her wits end and praying that he would say something encouraging. "There is nothing I can do medically that will help her. The brain is a funny thing Mrs. Johnston and damage to it causes things to happen that we hardly understand now. Even with all our fancy equipment and knowledge we still cannot repair brain injuries. You however can talk to her, play her favorite songs on a radio. Anything for her to concentrate on it's really her only hope. Her mind is active, you can see that here." He pointed to a device and he showed them the lines of intensity of how they went up and down. "With a deep coma patient these lines are almost non existent. However with Sabrina here she's very active at this time but as I said this seems to only last awhile. Once its gone, it usually doesn't come back." "Love and music we can do." Kathren said as she held Margrette's hand. Margrette knew the man whose music took her daughter to another world. Before she left this one that is. She hoped that they could find one of his CD's somewhere. The doctor did a few more tests offered his prayers and left them to discuss what they would do next. "Margrette you stay here with Sabrina and we'll go get a cd player. Music is something we can provide, I don't have one so we'll go buy one. Also a pair of ear phones so we can let it play all night." "Thanks Endora." Margrette said with a smile. Kathren and Endora started out but stopped suddenly. "Oh what CDs do you want us to pick up." Endora said. "Just one artist a fur named Pavel, he's Sabrina's favorite, any album by him will be good." "All right then we'll be back soon, Kathren let's go." Kathren gave Margrette a hug and a small kiss on the cheek. "She'll be back with us in no time." "I hope you're right." "I know I am, she's a fighter and she won't let anything stand between her and her mother. She loves you way too much." Margrette smiled and returned the kiss. "You go now." "We'll be back quicker than a wink." The large otter followed Endora out leaving Margrette alone with Sabrina. The darkness that enveloped the ship was ice cold. Colder than what Sabrina thought it should be, quickly she zapped up two warm coats for each of them. "Ah thanks." Sabrina Johnston said as she saw the coat magically appear and envelop her body. "Even with my fur that cold went right through me." This was a kind act but she still didn't trust this creature. "Me too and I don't have any fur. Sabrina I know you don't care for me but I have to know more about how you got here? I want to help you but I can't if I don't understand what is going on here? How did you wind up on a ship that's supposed to be on the bottom of the ocean?" Sabrina Johnston didn't care how she got here, she was happy and that's what mattered. "I don't know and I really don't care. I'm happy here", there was something about the tranquillity of the ship. "If you want to find out how and why I got here go ahead. I'm going back to find Leonard, he's probably worried about where I got to." With saying that, Sabrina left swinging her tail out almost hitting Sabrina in the face. "Don't you realize that this ship sank a long time ago, it might just do it again." Sabrina shouted but Sabrina Johnston was out of hearing range in no time flat. If that was the case Sabrina Johnston was heading into a world of danger. This thought troubled Sabrina greatly. "Now what am I going to do?" Sabrina thought, maybe I can talk with my Aunts surely they would have some advice. She made a mental anchor to this place and then zapped herself home. End of Chapter 6 OH GOD NO!!!!!!! Not another one…drat…hmm is too late to change the title of this story. |
