Chapter 7: A New Beginning.

Canada Present Day: The White's House.

Margrette didn't know how this was going to come out, God, it was so unbelievable; she hardly had a chance to really get her mind around the idea. She knocked on the door and waited impatiently with her daughter.
The door opened and there stood Nancy and her husband Sid looking very eager. "Hi Margrette, Sabrina; come on in." She motioned for them to enter.
Margrette regretted having to call on such short notice. "Sorry to have startled you on the phone but I have something really important to tell you both. I didn't think it could wait."

Heather's parents gestured for Margrette and Sabrina to come into the living room. "I kind of got that impression from your call. Heather's not here yet, though she should be soon . She has trouble getting in out of her car, it's not one hundred percent friendly to her shape yet. But we are working on it."
"I can imagine." Responded Sabrina, envisioning Heather getting into a car.
"Have a seat, please." Nancy motioned for them to sit on the couch while she and Sid took their seat in chairs. "Your message was, to say the least, mysterious. Can you tell us what this is all about?"

"Here it comes," Margrette thought to herself, "my nerves were totally on edge. How do I start this conversation?" Margrette sighed and blurted out the words, "I'm almost sure I know who Heather's biological mother is!"

Nancy and Sid's faces just dropped. They looked at each other then at Margrette again, "Really!" They said in unison.

"Here we go," she thought. "Yes but it's a complicated story." Then she began to tell them of the strange tale that had unfolded not so long ago that lead up to the fantastic discovery. Sid and Nancy sat captivated only intervening once or twice throughout the tale. In the end they found it so hard to fathom. The tape was the final proof and it put away a lot of their doubts.
Nancy was the most concerned about all this, "So what you are saying is that Heather and these other two people are victims of some cruel experimentation. And that essentially Heather is a clone of your daughter Sabrina."

Repeated like that it sounded so hokey that it couldn't possibly be true but sadly it was. "Physically yes, but not in mind. Heather is a totally different person than Sabrina."
"So that makes Sabrina here her biological sister or clone. Oh I'm confused." Nancy said trying to cope with what was an almost ludicrous situation. Sid to was also confused and moved over to comfort his wife, who obviously needed it.
Margrette didn't really know what to say next. "Seems your family and mine have grown in a big hurry." She smiled but she didn't think it did much good.

They all heard a noise outside and saw a black and white blur head for the door. The door flew open and in burst Heather. "MOMMA!!!!!" They were all startled by her call and Nancy got up and intercepted her daughter. Heather had tears in her eyes. "MOMMA!!!" Heather noticed Sabrina and Margrette presence. "Mom what's going on? Your phone call frightened me."

Nancy wiped away her daughters tears, "I'm sorry dear, I didn't mean to scare you. It's just that Margrette's called concerned me so. I didn't know it translated through to your call as well."

"So is everything ok?" Heather said almost out of breath, she wondered why both Margrette and Sabrina were here.

"Well we have some news for you." She made a paw gesture and presented Sabrina and said. "I would like you to meet your sister."
Heather's rear end hit the floor in a thump. "My SISTER!"
Sid put in his two cents, "It's a long story dear, just sit there and we'll fill you in." Heather just nodded and Sabrina put on a weak smile.
"Uh….Hi Sis." Sabrina gave a gentle wave.
Heather just sat there stunned as she listened to the story.

US Present Day.

Strapped in and secure in the car's seatbelts, Tabitha endured the long trip home as best a hyperactive six-year-old could. Tabitha seemed to be full of energy this morning and it was obvious that Grandpa and Grandma were exhausted. Sabrina could see why they only wanted to see Tabitha for short periods of time. At this point a strange thought filled her head, she wasn't sure if she wanted kids. It was strange but she had seen what Tabitha could do and she wasn't sure how her Mother did it. Since she was getting more serious with Chris, kids would eventually be the topic of conversation. Now she wasn't sure exactly where she stood on the subject. Tabitha really wasn't the poster child for parents thinking of having a child. Don't get it wrong, she loved Tabitha with all her heart and soul but Tabitha had the way of destruction. Everything she did almost always got her into trouble of sorts. In the end she wouldn't trade Tabitha for anything, but it seems she wasn't really ready for motherhood just yet. She wondered if any woman ever thought she was?

She looked over at Tabitha and saw her fidgeting in her seat. She was so cute, she never really thought of her self as cute when she was that age, though. "So how was your stay? Did Grandma spoil you rotten."
Tabitha had no idea what her sister meant by being spoiled rotten. Grammy and Grampy were always nice to her and giving her things. "Why would I want to be rotten?"
Sabrina sighed knowing that this was what lay before her in the future. "It's a figure of speech Tabby, it means were Gramma and Grampa nice to you."
"Oh!" Was all that Tabby came up with. "Sure, they always is."

Sabrina moaned, Tabby had not yet mastered the skill of grammar. "So, did you miss me?"
"Nope." Sabrina said teasing.
"No!" Tabby said upset. "Well I didn't miss you either!" She said in a huff, she crossed her arms and became very quiet.

Sabrina giggled "Of course I missed my favorite little sister." She reached over with a free paw and began to tickle her. Tabitha laughed as the tickling continued then Sabrina stopped much to Tabitha's dismay.
"I have some news." Tabitha wasn't really listening, she wanted to be tickled some more. "There's a surprise waiting at home."
This got her attention and her eyes lit up. "Really! Really! What kind of surprise?"
She thought back to her younger days, she had loved surprises as well. Mom always had a way of making cookies or other things a surprise for her. "Well you remember Auntie Sabrina." Tabitha had come up with that and it seemed to have stuck. Later when she was older they would explain a bit more about Auntie Sabrina.
"Yeah we had lots of fun, she's really pretty."
To Sabrina's annoyance she always said that her sister was the pretty one even though they were identical twins. "Well Mom and Dad have a house guest, a real special house guest. Her name is Swallow and she looks like me."
Tabitha looked confused and shook her head, "Why she look like you?"
"I don't know." The fact that she didn't know worried her, plus the fact there was also another one running around worried her as well. It was a very strange mystery she hoped to find the answer to. "Anyway Swallow's had a hard life and she hasn't been around kids much. So she'll probably be quite shy around you. Do you understand what I mean?" She wasn't sure if a six-year-old would grasp the concept of shyness.
"She's like Trevor!" She exclaimed.
"Trevor?" This surprised her she had never mentioned that name before. "Who's Trevor?"
"A boy fox in my class, doesn't speak much. He hasn't made any friends, I think he's sick or something."
"Well that's not quite what's wrong with Swallow, she is nervous around people."
"What's ner..vo..sis?"
She tried to think of an example and came up with a perfect one, "You know when Aunt Beechum comes and you go and hide, that's nervous."
"Oh…..I know nervous!" She said. "Sad, people are nice."
"Well Tabitha not all people are nice, Swallow grew up with people who didn't like her."
Tabitha was silent for a few moments then spoke softly, " Her Mommy and Daddy didn't like her?"

Sabrina thought to herself it was going to be hard to explain to a 6-year-old the concept of cruelty. So in the end she just let Tabitha's statement ring true. "Yes Tabitha."
"That's sad." Tabitha didn't understand why Swallows Mommy wouldn't like her and that made her upset.
"Yes it is, so Swallow might be a bit scared of you. She hasn't been around too many kids."
"Ok, will you be with me when I meet her."
"Of course, Tabby, she'll need a friend like you to help her adjust. Think you can do that?" She wanted to get Tabitha in on helping out Swallow because it would keep her occupied. And proposed like this would show her that she was indeed helping. Tabitha always liked to help with things.
"I can help Swallow." She said with a big smile, "I can be her friend."
"She'll like that." Sabrina crossed her fingers that everything would be all right, however considering Swallows state of mind, she really didn't know. Sabrina thought it was best to change the subject, she was sure Tabitha would be on her best and that's all she could hope for.
"Tabby when you get back to school would you go and talk with Trevor? He might like a friend like you."
"Do I have to? She said pouting, "He's a boy!"
"Boys are nice, and most play video games. I'm sure you'd like to have someone to play with sometime, right? There was silence from Tabitha and she could see her sister thinking hard.
"Ok, I'll try and speak to Trevor."
"That's good to hear, now he may not be too talkative at first ok. Just give him a couple of tries ok. I'll bet he will be nervous." Now that Tabitha knew the word, it was best to use it.
"Nervous I know….." She grinned.
"Good I'm sure Trevor will be happy to have you as a friend."
Tabitha wasn't sure about that but she was going to give it a try. The next time she went to school she would say hi to Trevor.

U S Present Day.

She sat on her bed alone, she had excused herself from the table to dress awaiting her new sisters to arrive. She liked the fact that she now wasn't alone in the world but she had doubts. Her time with Sabrina had been brief and the facts now showed that Mother's other creation hadn't died. She wished that Ti was here, she would know what to do. She was about to cry but she held it back, she had cried too much already. She told herself like she had many times before that she had to be strong and to go on. Although for the last few months had not gone well, recent events had radically changed things for her.

Now she had to meet a child, children had always spit on her and did horrible things when they came across her. Most of her time had been spent asleep and the children had taken advantage of that. Waking up without any clothes was a common one. She didn't know why she was so nervous now; Endora had assured her that if she felt at all uncomfortable all she had to do is excuse herself. Now all she had to do was get up the courage. As she tried to relax she heard a bell ring throughout the house.

Sabrina thought it best to ring the bell to allow them to prepare. Tabitha was anxious to see Swallow but she wasn't sure if the feeling was mutual. Their Mother opened the door and Tabitha jumped into her arms almost knocking her over.
"Well there's my little girl." She rubbed her face against her daughter's fur and she rubbed back. It was a very emotional scene. Sabrina remembered a time when her mother could hold her, it seemed so long ago now.
"Mommy!"
"I missed you."
"I missed you too, Mommy." Tabitha hugged her mother. "Sabrina says there's another one of her." Tabitha said with excitement.
"Well, sort of, she's upstairs and she's really nervous."
"I know what nervous is!" Tabitha announced.
"That's good."
"Mom, maybe I should go upstairs." Sabrina said with concern.
"You don't have to." Said a voice from above, they all looked up. Seems Swallow had come out to greet them.

As Swallow watched, she saw the three skunks together staring up at her. She then realized just how much the alike they all really were. As she stepped down a few steps her vision of them suddenly changed and now there stood Mother, holding Edgar her black and white rabbit. The evil doctor also was there with them holding that nightmarish needle, the one she saw so many times before. She froze in horror and screamed, then ran back to the safety of her room.

They all stood there stunned as they watched her run away. Warren came running when he heard the scream. "What's Happened?"
"It's ok Warren." Endora put her husband's mind to ease. "Swallow just became upset."
"Mommy I didn't do anything!" Tabitha said upset, knowing she had been good.
Endora stroked her daughter's her head with her paw, "I know dear it wasn't your fault. Swallow's been hurt in a different kind of way. And it's going to take a long time for her to recover."
"I'll go Mom." Sabrina said with concern for Swallow.
"No, I'll go." She put Tabitha down. "I have to go see Swallow, ok sweetie."
"Ok Mommy, can you make her better?"
"I'm trying."
Endora put her paw on Sabrina's shoulder, "This may take awhile."
Sabrina embraced her Mother, as they had always been close. "You were always there for me, now it seems it's Swallow's turn."
"Go into the kitchen with your Father, he has something surprising to tell you."
"Oh!" Her eyebrow's went up.
"You'll see." She smiled at her and noted that Swallow and Sabrina had the same eyes, that wasn't too surprising considering what she knew.
"I know, I love you too, Mom."
"Come on you two." Warren said as he bent down and picked up Tabitha. "Arragh, you weigh a ton, Gramma and Grampa are feeding you way too much." He tickled Tabitha's tummy.
"Oh Daddy!" She giggled.
Sabrina watched as her mother started to climb the stairs, then she followed her father to the kitchen. She had no idea what her Father wanted to say to her. Hmmm she thought, "I wonder what it could be?"

Present Day Great Britain.

On the outskirts of Birmingham in a quaint new home, a familiar figure now stood and stared at herself in the full-length mirror. Ti twisted and turned as she stared at her reflection but the result to her was always the same, still no change. Now in most cases this wouldn't worry anyone but it had been almost twenty years since the Kent's had officially adopted her and she hadn't changed one bit. Well that wasn't completely true, one thing had changed, she had grown a bit. Not enough for people to really see a difference but she could tell. Mother's tampering had not only made her huge in size and stature but changed the way she, and likely Swallow, aged. If Swallow were still alive she could do tests on her to be completely sure. She was still huge in proportion to everyone else but there was no way anyone could change that. After all this time she was finally comfortable with her size and appearance, so was the small village which she frequently visited. People always said hi to her and she was a favorite at the local recreation center. She spent a lot of time with the young people there. Helping them with their studies and keeping them out of trouble was something she enjoyed doing. Her studies always led her to new and exciting things that she shared with her students. This gained her a whole lot of friends. In general she was happy, but there were two things missing in her life, one was lost to her forever and the other was something she hoped to remedy today. Her size had also kept her out of trouble, no one in his right mind messed with her. In her mind she knew she had to stay healthy, so a good diet and exercise was a must for her. She hoped that it was the main reason she looked so good but she had her doubts.

Her earliest years with the Kents were not pleasant ones. She had gone through what everyone called growing pains. It sounded funny but it was the truth, even though Ti was physically an adult her mind still rebelled in a fashion. Wanting youth and childhood, where there was none to be had. In some instances she had hurt the Kents on an emotional level. It wasn't easy on them adopting someone with no past. Who was also an oddity as much to herself and to everyone around her. Nightmares of the sinking boat and her failure to save her true friend and the only family she had plagued her still. Even time could not heal that wound. Also in the back of her mind was the woman she feared, the woman only known as Mother. If Mother knew Ti was alive, she didn't know what that diabolical monster would do. If only she knew where they had originated from. Her heart still was heavy with regrets and failures to herself and her adoptive parents. In many ways she felt she had been a burden to them.

As the years had passed, her time with the Kents had brought her great joy but also brought setbacks as well. Jonathan had a severe heart attack two years after her adoption had been made official. She had taken over the farm then, it was a huge responsibility to keep the homestead profitable and at times strained even her. Times had been hard for the Kents but Ti had helped them out in a big way. She hadn't let her intellect go to waste, either. During the evenings she experimented on a natural fertilizer blend that helped out with crop yields. The mixture was complex and had taken her over a year to develop. In the end she patented it.

Then she worked out an overseas deal with an American firm to manufacture it. It took awhile for it catch on and she had to borrow quite a bit of money to fund her project. But in the end it all paid off and she's had the farm running in the black for years. Her fertilizer is a must in most countries now, which pays out quite well in dividends. To say that the Kents were rich was not entirely the truth but they were very comfortable. Also, since Ti could easily manipulate numbers, she kept track of all their finances. In short they would never really have to worry about money anymore with Ti's expert guidance.
Ti had also foreseen the coming of the internet and had invested in those area's which had paid her more money than she had ever dreamed of. She also started her own company as a service provider network. That alone had caused her great aggravation at first but it was now also operating in the black.

So as the years passed her parents, unlike her, aged and the farm became just a place to live. The land was rented to others, while they enjoyed life. The Kents were so proud of Ti, there were no words for them to use to describe how much. She was a joy to them and would do it all over again without a moment's hesitation. Even though at times they had thought they had failed the young woman; Ti became their own and she too felt that way as well. They had become a family and Ti bathed in that happiness.

There was however another glowing light of happiness amongst all this organized chaos and that was Richard Conrad. A hotshot Raccoon with the magic touch for computers. To her surprise, Richard's knowledge of computers exceeded her own and that both aggravated and attracted her to him. What really attracted Richard to her was his ability to see beyond her amazon body and treat her like a normal person. They had a wonderful relationship that had grown over the years. Their endeavors at trying to become more intimate had been put aside early in their relationship when he announced his desire to save himself for marriage. She admired and respected his decision, however that had not extinguished her desire. In the end it was only him she dreamed of. Today it was her turn, she grinned and thought Richard Conrad was in for a very big surprise today. She got dressed and moved out into the garage where she had her customized van parked. It had been modified to accommodate her great size, it had cost a bundle but she was comfortable behind the wheel. The silver metallic paint shone in the bright sunshine, it was a beautiful day for a drive.

It was a long drive but finally she pulled into the parking lot of her own little company. She had picked Skunkworks as the company's name but regretted the name after some lawyer's notes from Lockheed Aircraft Inc. started pouring in. However she had Richard backing her and he put them in their place with countless examples of the word Skunkworks on the Internet. The letters stopped coming and she gave him a bonus. She always smiled whenever she looked at the sign on the front of the building, it made her proud because it was something she built from the ground up. As she got out and approached the building, she gently ran her finger over the brass plaque that pointed out her private parking space. She smiled to herself and then entered into the main doors. The receptionist immediately saw her and put on a big smile herself.
"Hello Miss Kent. Nice to see you again."
"Hello Nancy, contact Mr. Conrad tell him I want to see him in my office immediately." She said in a stern voice not looking at her.
"Yes Miss Kent." Nancy said with a bit of shakiness to her voice.
Ti knew Nancy was now a bit worried, as she didn't look back to give her any hint by sight as to what was happening. Her office wasn't very far away and she knew that she'd beat Richard there. True to form Richard arrived very soon after she had sat down in her custom built chair. Most of Ti's things were custom built, even her keyboard was larger than most. She had the money to do it so it was easy to make her life a little easier.
"Hi Ti, ah… you wanted to see me." Richard said nervously, they had been on a first name basis for quite a while now.
"Sit down Richard I have something I want to talk to you about." Her voice gave nothing away but she was as nervous as she could be.
He gulped as he sat. He tried to go through things he'd done in the last few days but nothing spectacular came to mind. What could I have screwed up now he thought?
